Claudix Vanesix, artist-in-residence at Tabakalera in 2025 , has received an Honourable Mention in the Interactive Art + category at the 2026 Prix Ars Electronica – one of the leading international awards in the field of art and technology – for his project XENOCENE: A Manifesto in Motion, initiated and developed at Tabakalera.
Xenocene: A Manifesto in Motion is a performance that explores the relationships between the human body, artificial intelligence and non-human forms of life. Through his own body and an AI-powered image generator, Claudix Vanesix creates shifting identities and speculates on alternative forms of perception and existence. The work challenges the anthropocentric perspective and human supremacy in the interpretation of the world, and offers a critical reflection on technologies such as bioengineering, space colonisation and artificial intelligence.
This is the second time that works promoted and produced by Tabakalera have won awards at the Festival. In 2025, the installation Compost Computacional, which was developed by the architect and researcher Marina Otero Verzier and produced by Tabakalera in collaboration with the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), received a Special Mention of the S+T+ARTS Prize. These awards, which are supported by the European Commission, celebrate the most innovative proposals at the intersection of science, technology and art.
A second recognition at the Venice Biennale
Claudix Vanesix has also received the award for Best Project in the Biennale College – Blend programme at the Venice Biennale, an initiative aimed at artists whose practice is not confined to a predefined discipline.
The winning project, The 3 Bitcoin Opera, presented by Claudix Vanesix and Cristina Soto Arias, reinterprets Brecht’s “The Threepenny Opera” through a contemporary world characterised by algorithmic power, surveillance capitalism, artificial intelligence, war economies and ecological collapse.
These recognitions reinforce Tabakalera’s commitment as a space for creation, support and promotion of artists, through programmes that foster experimentation, research and the development of contemporary artistic practices.
About Claudix Vanesix
Claudix Vanesix is a performance, Extended Realities and Artificial Intelligence artist. In 2025, she was an artist-in-residence at the Tabakalera Artists’ Space, where she developed her project GAN: Generative Adversarial Nuisance.
Their work challenges sexism and racism in digital social life and reflects on its impact on the physical world. Claudix creates performance and Virtual Reality art that challenges the narrative of technological inevitability by blending new technologies with ancient traditions.
