The event will provide a space to reflect on the impact that digital technologies have on imagination, as well as on individual, material and emotional desire in the 21st century.
\n\n
POV (Point Of View), a meeting point for the collective digestion of digital culture
\n\n
The POV programme emerged from a collaboration between Medialab and curator and researcher Jon Uriarte, conceived as a meeting point for the collective digestion of digital culture. The initiative aims to offer leading perspectives and voices in the field of digital culture.
\n\n
“POV” (Point of View) refers to the camera angle that shows what a person is seeing through their own eyes, as though the viewer were the protagonist. On the internet, the term is used to frame a specific situation and make audiences feel part of it, usually by depicting everyday scenes or relatable moments.
\n\n
Dialogues around digital cultures
\n\n
At a time when digitalisation is transforming society, the rapid implementation and constant evolution of technologies make it increasingly difficult to adapt to and understand a continuously changing landscape. POV is a programme that will present conversations with leading figures from different areas of digital culture, approaching digitality from a critical and educational perspective. Using their research, artistic projects and reflections as a starting point, each dialogue will explore and share different aspects of digital culture with the audience.
\n\n
First guests: Gala Hernández López and Helen Hester
\n\n
In its first session, POV will present the perspective of Gala Hernández López, artist, filmmaker and researcher whose documentary films explore identity-related phenomena such as incels (involuntary celibates), while analysing how technology companies exploit and monetise their desires. The conversation will include excerpts from videos, images and texts that form part of Gala’s research and creative process, but which are not usually shown in her films. The event will offer a space to reflect on the impact of digital technologies on imagination and on individual, material and emotional desire in the 21st century.
\n\n
Winner of a César Award from the French Film Academy for her documentary The Mechanics of Fluids, Hernández was also selected for Ikusmira Berriak and is currently preparing her first feature film, which will explore motherhood as a collective fear. Gala Hernández López’s filmography investigates how the internet and digital technologies are transforming society’s imagination.
\n\n
The second session, on 20 May, will feature Helen Hester, philosopher, writer, technofeminist activist and Professor of Gender, Technology and Cultural Politics at the University of West London. Specialising in the analysis of reproductive politics, the future of work and technofeminist thought, Hester will share her latest research into natalist theories and reproductive engineering emerging from Silicon Valley in response to concerns about declining birth rates.
\n\n
Helen Hester develops much of her critical practice within Laboria Cuboniks, an international feminist collective that combines fields as diverse as visual arts, programming, archaeology and philosophy. Her works translated into Spanish include Against Domestic Realism: writings on housing, gender, labour and technology (Bartlebooth, 2025), After Work (with Nick Srnicek, Caja Negra, 2024), and Xenofeminism: Gender Technologies and the Politics of Reproduction (Caja Negra, 2018).
\n\n
Talks and Conferences > Imagination and Desire in Digital Society
\n\n
POV with Gala Hernández López
\n\n
15 April 2026, 7:00 pm
\n\n
Sala 1, Tabakalera
\n\n
Language: Spanish
"},"path":{"alias":"/gala-hernandez-lopez-will-open-pov-dialogue-series-tabakalera","langcode":"en"},"fecha":"2026-04-13","relationships":{"categoria":[],"media":[{"internal":{"type":"media__image"},"relationships":{"imgSrc":{"uri":{"url":"/sites/default/files/2026-05/gala_hernandez_lopez_.jpg"},"sizes":[{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":"https://cms.tabakalera.eus/sites/default/files/styles/breakpoint_1920/public/2026-05/gala_hernandez_lopez_.jpg?itok=Jpye9KV1","l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":"https://cms.tabakalera.eus/sites/default/files/styles/breakpoint_31360/public/2026-05/gala_hernandez_lopez_.jpg?itok=-ajdbEXT","m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":"https://cms.tabakalera.eus/sites/default/files/styles/breakpoint_376/public/2026-05/gala_hernandez_lopez_.jpg?itok=sxWlgeG3","rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":"https://cms.tabakalera.eus/sites/default/files/styles/breakpoint_769/public/2026-05/gala_hernandez_lopez_.jpg?itok=zItHOEpy","s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":"https://cms.tabakalera.eus/sites/default/files/styles/thumb_rrss_large/public/2026-05/gala_hernandez_lopez_.jpg?itok=yasN-sOf","rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":"https://cms.tabakalera.eus/sites/default/files/styles/thumb_rrss_small/public/2026-05/gala_hernandez_lopez_.jpg?itok=KOsmXTD0"}]}},"imgMetas":{"alt":""}}]}}},"pageContext":{"id":"e2889fed-8d73-5828-a25a-f11d5a6275d6","nodeId":13781,"langcode":"en","nodeMetadata":{"title":"Gala Hernández López will open the POV dialogue series at Tabakalera. | Tabakalera","description":"The filmmaker Gala Hernández López and philosopher Helen Hester will be the first two guests to share their artistic processes and critical perspectives on digitality."},"yesterday":"2026-05-06","today":"2026-05-07"}},"staticQueryHashes":["1409045280","1472977592","1549843337","1600800028","1852898869","2156051761","2684269349","2736526504","3122408510","3305536543","3493939040","3649515864","4040268713","63159454","847920557"]}
