João de Sousa Guerreiro (Lisbon, 1988) is a librarian and cultural manager. He holds a PhD in Information and Documentation from the University of Salamanca, where his doctoral thesis focused on citizen participation as an element of library management. He is currently a librarian at the «Grupo Cántico» State Public Library in Córdoba.
He was director of the Library at Colegio Internacional de Sevilla – San Francisco de Paula, where he worked particularly on building a community around the library, fostering students’ autonomy as information users, and promoting reading for pleasure. Together with M. Ramona Domínguez Sanjurjo, he is co-author of Bibliotecas ciudadanas: espacios de desarrollo y participación (UOC, 2018).
His professional career has been closely linked to the search for methodologies that can make libraries spaces for connection, participation, and community building.
A passionate reader of contemporary literature and poetry, he created PoetasYz, a project aimed at bringing the most recent Spanish poetry closer to librarians and other professionals involved in reading.
