Born in Barcelona, Lluís Miñarro began his passion for cinema programming in cine
clubs and as a film critic for the magazines Destino and Dirigido. A leading figure of the
1970s counterculture, he has produced more than 40 unique films, which have won 140
awards at the most prestigious international festivals, including the Palme d’Or at Cannes
2010, the Crystal Globe at Karlovy Vary, and the Tiger Award in Rotterdam.
He has directed the documentaries Familystrip (2009) and Blow Horn (2009), as well as the
feature films Stella Cadente (2014), Love Me Not (2019), and Emergency Exit (2025), world
premiere in Tallinn Black Nights FF.
Since 1989, with his production company Eddie Saeta s.a.u., he has collaborated with
renowned directors such as Manoel de Oliveira, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Naomi
Kawase, Albert Serra, Lisandro Alonso, José Luis Guerín, Marc Recha, and Javier Rebollo,
among others. Miñarro has also launched emerging filmmakers.
He has served as a jury member at the festivals of Locarno, San Sebastián, Buenos Aires,
Munich, Karlovy Vary, Mar del Plata, Nara, Marseille, Moscow... His work has been exhibited
in galleries and museums such as MoMA, Tate Modern, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum,
and in cinetheques in Mexico City, Tangier, Paris, Valencia, Barcelona, Madrid, and
Lausanne, among others.
In 2010, he received the Barcelona City Award for his commitment to the arts.
