Session programmed by the UNIK group
\n\nThree years ago, we expanded the possibility of collaborative programming for Tabakalera's shared screen. Since then, collectives such as Harrotu Ileak, Jóvenes en el Cine, and the UNIK group have shared their experiences and knowledge with us through various processes, contributing to a programme that is more sensitive to a plural and diverse citizenry. So far, we have screened films such as Mary and Max, Adam Elliot (2023); 12 jours, Raymond Depardon (2017), and Druk, Thomas Vinterberg (2020).
\n\nOnce again this year, we are working with the UNIK collective to programme a new session in the Tabakalera cinema. Throughout this process, filmmaker Lucia Montero has accompanied the group across six working sessions where they have conversed, debated, and reflected on cinema and the issues that concern them. The process will culminate on June 11th with the screening of the film selected by the group itself in the Tabakalera cinema.

\n\nThrough his work and research, he captures the politics of liberation through documenting Brotherhoods such as Gnawa, Hmadcha, Jilala, and Issawa—communities descended from West African enslaved people forcibly brought to Morocco.
\n\nAs a child, Aniss attended Gnawa rituals, where dance, music, trance, and self-mutilation intertwined suffering with the sacred.
\nHis video practice offers an intimate glimpse into the Brotherhoods' imaginaries, proposing an affective and conceptual framework where the anguish and sorrow of the oppressed individual become an aesthetic force that paves the way for liberation.

She works as an editor, teacher and archivist. From an early age her training was in the field of arts and social sciences. She studied at the Escuela Nacional de Experimentación y Realización Cinematográfica (ENERC), in Buenos Aires, Argentina and more recently at the Elias Querejeta Zine Eskola, in Donostia, Basque Country.
\nAs an editor, she has participated in multiple documentary projects, as well as experimental projects in collaboration with contemporary Argentinean artists.
\nIn 2019 she founded a documentary filmmaking workshop, ‘La Paloma’ in a Penitentiary Unit in the province of Buenos Aires.
\nIn 2024 she carried out a Laboratory of memories and archives, in conjunction with the Malen Etxea Association, in Zumaia, as part of her TFM.
\nShe is also involved in Argentinean film research and preservation projects and is part of the research collective Operación Retorno.
Lidia is raised by a queer family banished to the outskirts of a mining town. They are accused of causing a mysterious disease that's starting to spread.
