Sofía Mendiondo (Buenos Aires, 1991) holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), where she also studied Fashion and Textile Design. She completed her residency in Clinical Psychology at Argerich Hospital and obtained a postgraduate qualification. She obtained a Master’s in Artistic Practices and Cultural Studies: Body, Affects and Territory at Huarte Centre and a Master’s in Research and Creation in Contemporary Art at the University of the Basque Country (EHU).
Her practice explores the relationships between the body and the structures that contain it: devices, patterns, codes, wrappings and graphic systems designed to organise, support or normalise.
She investigates different modes of attention in the process of making and is interested in the moment when a form loses its anticipatory function and, with it, its stability of meaning. She works with textiles, printed surfaces, pattern-making and writing, shifting functional codes towards the sculptural and the textual.
