KOOPERATIBA emerges precisely from a shared exchange between two ways of approaching the past and establishes a dialogue between artworks, archives, graphic languages and forms of political representation linked to different collective experiences.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><strong><span><span>Carla Filipe’s artistic practice critically explores the relationships between art, popular culture and political activism. </span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Starting from drawing, collage or photomontage, and frequently drawing on the appropriation of historical documents, revolutionary iconography, flags or posters, her work constructs a narrative shaped by social, subjective and autobiographical dimensions.&nbsp;</span></span></span></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><strong><span><span>Taxio Ardanaz’s work, meanwhile, revolves around the tensions between ideology, representation and memory. </span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Through painting, installation, photographic archives and video, the artist explores the physical traces of thwarted political projects and various forms of collective resistance, grounded in historical research and visual essays.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The exhibition reinforces Tabakalera's mission to </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span>promote artistic research and production, both through creative practice and curatorial work.</span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span> Supporting the careers of creators linked to Tabakalera's artistic support programmes forms part of this mission. This is the case of Taxio Ardanaz, whom the Centre supported as an artist-in-residence in 2021.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><strong><span><span>New creations</span></span></strong></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>KOOPERATIBA extends throughout the entire area of Tabakalera's main Exhibition Hall.</span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span> The hall houses a shared archive</span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span> conceived specifically by the artists and curator, based on the interests and materials they draw upon during their working processes. This installation moves from documentary elements, posters, photographs, film, sound and object-based records, to process-based ones, placing certain materials on the threshold between document and artwork.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>As is customary in Tabakalera exhibitions</span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span>, both artists have created new works specifically for this exhibition.</span></span></strong></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><strong><span><span>Filipe presents two new works</span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span> through hand embroidery, in which she </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span>revisits memories linked both to documents and to personal experiences</span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span>. These pieces occupy a space between the autobiographical and the collective. The artist also presents a shared archive from the period following Portuguese 25 April, comprising press cuttings drawn from the extensive personal archive she has assembled over time.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><strong><span><span>Ardanaz, meanwhile, presents a work </span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span>made from plaster and clay panels, inspired by various references taken from a photographic archive of commemorative murals and decorative elements found in popular architecture. He also exhibits two large fabric works in the form of banners, evoking the </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span>staging and visual representation of different twentieth-century ideologies.</span></span></strong></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>These new productions form part of the </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span>artistic support programmes promoted by Tabakalera in its role as a production centre.&nbsp;</span></span></strong></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><strong><span><span>Public programme of activities</span></span></strong></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The KOOPERATIBA exhibition will be accompanied by an </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span>extensive programme of activities</span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span> designed to complement and expand upon its content.&nbsp;</span></span></span></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The programme of </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span>guided tours</span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span> of the exhibition will begin tomorrow, 3 July, with a dialogue-based visit led by the curator and the artists. Further sessions of </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span>Arte Makina, the introductory contemporary art course</span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span> aimed at general audiences, will also be offered. Each month, a guest contributor will prepare a session connected to the exhibition in order to stimulate new ideas and discussions. In addition, there will be </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span>workshops aimed particularly at children and family audiences</span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span>.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>From 15 to 18 October, the </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span>KOOPERATIBA seminar</span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span> will take place, providing an opportunity to reflect on some of the themes addressed by the works in the exhibition of the same name. Its aim will be to </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span>explore</span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span> these themes in greater depth through encounters and exchanges across a wide range of disciplines, while publicly debating some of the ideas proposed by the artists in relation to</span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span> the world of work, revolutionary moments, the memory that remains of them in the form of archives and, above all, the very idea of cooperation.</span></span></strong></span></span></span></p>\n\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Running from October to December, the </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><strong><span><span>Tabakalera cinema will also host a film series</span></span></strong></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span> linked to the exhibition, featuring screenings of films that have served as references for the exhibition project.
