During the conference, Marek Poliks and Roberto Alonso Trillo will present the key points of their work Exocapitalism, in which they put forward a provocative theory: capital is moving away from (taking off) its dependence on material resources and labour in favour of increasingly abstract processes linked to software, the attention economy and financialisation. The authors cite the example of an airline that not only makes money by carrying passengers, but also increasingly sells the benefits of boarding the plane earlier; it sells places in the queue.

In contrast to the idea that capitalism seeks to eliminate inefficiency, Trillo and Poliks argue that intermediation and waiting can become sources of value.

As part of their presentation, they will use the example of AI development and constant announcements of astronomical investments to explain how, in this strange economy, data centres have ceased to be infrastructure investments and have become financial artefacts that bring together loan agreements, debts, and speculative fictions.

Roberto Alonso Trillo is a theorist and artist whose work encompasses cultural theory, media philosophy, and experimental sound. His research focuses on the aesthetic and political dimensions of machine learning, paying particular attention to infrastructural critique and performativity. In ongoing collaboration with Marek Poliks, he investigates AI theory and speculative design as part of a broader inquiry into automation and cultural production. His interdisciplinary practice extends to sound art, post-instrumental music, and critical pedagogy. He currently resides in Hong Kong.

Marek Poliks is a researcher in the philosophy of technology, especially as it pertains to deep learning. Marek and his main research collaborator, Roberto Alonso Trillo (HKBU), work on a perspective that considers deep learning tools as endosymbiotic reproductive infrastructure (inorganic vehicles through which biological, epistemological, and social information is encoded, subjected to contingent processes, and transmitted). He currently resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Subsequent conferences with Júlia Nueno and Ana Valdivia

On 11 November it will be the turn of researcher and computational designer Júlia Nueno, who has conducted different research efforts as a member of Forensic Architecture (Goldsmiths, University of London) on the genocide in Gaza and the use of computer systems and AI by the Israeli government.

Meanwhile, on 2 December, Ana Valdivia —a professor and researcher in Artificial Intelligence, Government, and Policy at the Oxford Internet Institute— will present her upcoming book, which focuses on data centres, the artificial intelligence supply chain, and the materiality of AI.

Dialogues about digital cultures

The POV programme stems from a collaborative effort between Tabakalera’s Medialab and curator and researcher Jon Uriarte, acting as a meeting point for digital culture debate and collective reflection.

At a time when digitalisation is transforming society, the rapid implementation of technologies and their constant development make it difficult to adapt to and understand a constantly changing scenario. POV proposes a space for reflection and dialogue to discuss the phenomena of contemporary digital culture.

POV (“Point of View”) is an abbreviation referring to a camera angle that shows what a person is seeing through their own eyes, as though the viewer were the protagonist. On the internet, the term is used to contextualise a specific situation and make the audience feel part of it, usually by describing everyday scenes or moments that other people can identify with.
"},"path":{"alias":"/tabakalera-will-host-three-new-pov-conferences-artificial-intelligence-autumn","langcode":"en"},"fecha":"2026-10-05","relationships":{"categoria":[],"media":[{"internal":{"type":"media__image"},"relationships":{"imgSrc":{"uri":{"url":"/sites/default/files/2026-09/pov_trillo_poliks_web_1920x1080px.jpg"},"sizes":[{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":"http://cms.tabakalera.eus/sites/default/files/styles/breakpoint_1920/public/2026-09/pov_trillo_poliks_web_1920x1080px.jpg?itok=6jhULIpD","l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":"http://cms.tabakalera.eus/sites/default/files/styles/breakpoint_31360/public/2026-09/pov_trillo_poliks_web_1920x1080px.jpg?itok=1R5qIvvY","m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":"http://cms.tabakalera.eus/sites/default/files/styles/breakpoint_376/public/2026-09/pov_trillo_poliks_web_1920x1080px.jpg?itok=FDn2aErm","rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":"http://cms.tabakalera.eus/sites/default/files/styles/breakpoint_769/public/2026-09/pov_trillo_poliks_web_1920x1080px.jpg?itok=0JuCfbmA","s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":"http://cms.tabakalera.eus/sites/default/files/styles/thumb_rrss_large/public/2026-09/pov_trillo_poliks_web_1920x1080px.jpg?itok=6PQAxjns","rrss_s":null},{"xl":null,"l":null,"m":null,"s":null,"rrss_l":null,"rrss_s":"http://cms.tabakalera.eus/sites/default/files/styles/thumb_rrss_small/public/2026-09/pov_trillo_poliks_web_1920x1080px.jpg?itok=H9_d6Q4o"}]}},"imgMetas":{"alt":""}}]}}},"pageContext":{"id":"4a5cb7de-8a93-599c-9ec5-190adaf23cda","nodeId":14151,"langcode":"en","nodeMetadata":{"title":"Tabakalera will host three new POV conferences on artificial intelligence this autumn | Tabakalera","description":""},"publicoTid":0,"publico2Tid":0,"yesterday":"2026-10-06","today":"2026-10-08"}},"staticQueryHashes":["1409045280","1472977592","1549843337","1600800028","1852898869","2684269349","2736526504","3122408510","3305536543","3493939040","3649515864","4040268713","63159454","847920557"]}
