Landscapes, urban structures, and architectural fragments function as witnesses of industrial economies, inscribing themselves materially and narratively into space, time, and social dynamics. In my work, I engage with the industrialisation of the region, with a particular focus on ore extraction, positioning the audience as reflective observers of capitalist modes of exploitation.

\n\n

The exhibition consists of a filmic work embedded within an installation, topographically and historically interconnected. The project operates across media and can be understood as an expanded cinematic experience. Various fragments and filmic images are temporally entangled, producing an affective unfolding of layered temporalities.

\n\n

This approach is informed by Brian Massumi’s concept of the persistence of affect, allowing historical and contemporary dynamics to become simultaneously perceptible. Industrial and social landscapes are understood as “affect landscapes,” in which collective intensities continue to resonate.

\n\n

Material, film, and space make this persistence of affect perceptible and invite reflection on temporality, nature, labour, and social history. The work aims to shift the perception of one’s environment—its spaces and structures—by opening up new perspectives.

\n\n

The historical grounding of the project, combined with the concept of affective landscapes, enables a simultaneous reflection on industrial history, social movements, as well as current ecological and economic conditions.

Max Grünauer is a visual artist from Berlin exploring cinematic experiences and their social resonances. After graduating from high school, he worked on film productions at the University of Television and Film Munich, furthering his studies in feature film directing (guest studies) and media technologies in Munich. In 2024, he completed his studies in Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg. His work investigates the intersections of affect, perception and spatiality.

In my work, I engage with the industrialisation of the region, with a particular focus on ore extraction, positioning the audience as reflective observers of capitalist modes of exploitation.The exhibition consists of a filmic work embedded within an installation, topographically and historically interconnected. The project operates across media and can be understood as an expanded cinematic experience. Various fragments and filmic images are temporally entangled, producing an affective unfolding of layered temporalities.This approach is informed by Brian Massumi’s concept of the persistence of affect, allowing historical and contemporary dynamics to become simultaneously perceptible. Industrial and social landscapes are understood as “affect landscapes,” in which collective intensities continue to resonate.Material, film, and space make this persistence of affect perceptible and invite reflection on temporality, nature, labour, and social history.
