Full venues with controlled capacity for the celebration of the 5th anniversary of Tabakalera
A total of 5,500 people have participated in the activities programmed by the centre.
All regulations relating to safety and capacity have been rigorously complied with.
Tabakalera, International Centre for Contemporary Culture, has seen a very positive response to the programme of activities organised throughout the weekend to commemorate its fifth anniversary. The celebration, with the aim of promoting culture, scrupulously complied with safety regulations and offered a variety of options to enjoy different aspects of creation and succeeded in bringing together 5,500 people, with groups of reduced size.
Tabakalera celebrated its fifth anniversary on Friday 11 September and the programme of activities primarily involved proposals related to creation, the centre’s core focus. Both the conversation between the Argentine artist Julio Le Parc and the writer and researcher Ana Longoni and the presentation of the exhibition Zin Ex. From abstraction to algorithm were full to capacity (100 people), as was the special screening of the film Parasite (137 people) that José Luis Rebordinos, director of the San Sebastian Festival, presented in the cinema.
On Saturday 12 September, ten thematic guided tours were offered throughout the day for visitors to get to know the different places that make up the Tabakalera ecosystem at first hand. All groups were full, with 80 people in total, complying with all the required safety and capacity regulations.
Proposals related to contemporary art also had an excellent response. The conversation between Florian Wüst and Oier Etxeberria about the exhibition Zin Ex. From abstraction to algorithm, the talk that was organised to bid farewell to the intervention Malas madres by the artist Jerónimo Hagerman, and the session with the members of the group of artists Quadrature and the astrophysicists from the DIPC, Silvia Bonoli and Raúl Angulo, attracted very diverse audiences. During the weekend, a total of more than 1,200 people visited the Tabakalera exhibitions (Zin Ex. From abstraction to algorithm, Supraspectives and Néstor Basterretxea. Through Photography).
The installation Supraspectives, created by the Quadrature collective, which was inaugurated last Friday and will be on view until 11 October in the Patio, enjoyed an outstanding reception. It is the first work produced by Medialab Tabakalera and has been produced in collaboration with Ars Electronica and the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC).
The seats for the film screenings and the concert by Ghost Numbers scheduled for Saturday were sold out. The screening of Handia presented by Paco Etxeberria and Lourdes Herrasti, from the Aranzadi society, and the screening of THX 1138, by director George Lucas, accompanied by music by Güiro Meets Russia, attracted 274 people to the cinema.
Tabakalera wanted to pay tribute throughout the weekend to the artist and film-maker José Antonio Sistiaga from San Sebastian with the projection on the facade of the building of his best-known work, the experimental hand-painted film … ere erera baleibu izik subua. Sistiaga also features in the experimental film exhibition Zin Ex. From abstraction to algorithm in Tabakalera from 11 September to 31 January.
Bearing in mind the special circumstances in which the activities to celebrate the anniversary have taken place, Tabakalera has offered 9 live streamed broadcasts on the website online.tabakalera.eu. A total of 650 people followed these broadcasts, and 7,000 people have consulted the 5th anniversary programming.
Videos of the activities can be viewed at online.tabakalera.eu.
