My Mexican Bretzel, Nuria Giménez Lorang, Spain, 2019, 73'
Two nominations for the Goya awards: Best New Filmmaker, and Best Documentary Film
The intimate diary of an affluent woman illustrated by the home-made recordings of her husband, a rich industrialist, between the 1940s and 1960s. The film is also a classic melodrama in the style of Douglas Sirk or Todd Haynes, with raw emotion. A soaring trip through old Europe. A romantic dream.
*On May 8th, Saturday, the director will be in Tabakalera to talk about the process of making My Mexican Bretzel.
